Flowchart Drafting — Theory

In this course, we’ll cover flowcharts and how to build them systematically using a standardized approach. The 3-Stage Flowchart Drafting Method makes the drafting process faster and more consistent than drawing ad hoc.

The 3-Stage Flowchart Drafting Method:
  • Add all shapes first — insert, size, align, and label every shape before connecting anything.
  • Add all connectors second — draw connectors between the finished shapes, ensuring clean, minimal bends.
  • Add all annotations last — add reference numbers, labels, and figure numbers after the structure is set.

The 3-Stage Drafting Method

Work in this exact order:
1️⃣ Add All Shapes First
  • Insert, size, align, and label all shapes first
2️⃣ Add All Connectors Second
  • Add all connectors between shapes second
3️⃣ Add All Annotations Last
– Add reference numbers, labels, and figure numbers

Why This Works

  • No more chasing connectors after shapes move
  • No missed labels or forgotten figure numbers
  • Clean results with less revision and fewer mistakes

Quick Reminder

✔ One shape at a time → fully formatted before moving on
✔ One connector at a time → drawn, styled, and rerouted if needed
✔ One set of annotations at the end → no jumping around

Try It Out

Use the practice file and follow the 3 stages exactly. You’ll feel the difference immediately — and never go back to “freestyle” drawing again.
