Before you can move, delete, or format anything in Visio, you need to select it. This lesson covers the two fastest and most practical ways to select shapes in patent drawings.

Two Methods You’ll Use:
  • 🖱️ Ctrl + Click – Great for picking shapes one by one
  • 🟦 Area Select – Click and drag to select many at once
These methods cover 95% of real-world selection tasks — no need to learn every option.

Ctrl + Click Method

Hold `Ctrl` and click multiple objects to select them individually. Click again to remove from the selection.

Area Select (Marquee) Method

Click and drag to draw a box around objects. Everything fully inside the box gets selected.
Hold `Ctrl` to add more shapes or remove specific ones with an extra click.

Why It Matters

Good selection = faster edits, cleaner results, fewer mistakes. You’ll use this constantly across all drawing types.
